Urinetown: The Musical Auditions on May 9 and May 10
The Academy of The Company Theatre Conservatory announces auditions for teen actors ages 13 through 20 for their upcoming summer production of Urinetown:The Musical, on Monday, May 9 3:30-6:00 pm and Tuesday, May 10 5:00-7:00pm, at The Company Theatre Center for the Arts, 30 Accord Park Drive, Norwell. If needed, callbacks will be Wednesday, May 11th at 3:30 PM. The production is directed by Steve Dooner with musical direction by Melissa Carubia. Urinetown:The Musical is a special production of Academy of The Company Theatre’s Summer Workshop.
Winner of three Tony Awards, 2 Outer Critics Circle Awards and 2 Obie Awards, Urinetown is a side-splitting musical satire of the legal system, capitalism, social irresponsibility, and musical theatre itself!
In a Gotham-like city, a terrible water shortage, caused by a 20-year drought, has led to a government enforced ban on private toilets. Citizens must use public amenities, regulated by a single malevolent company that profits by charging admission for one of humanity’s most basic needs. Amid the people, a hero plans a revolution to lead them all to freedom!
Audition candidates should be strong singers and dancers, and arrive prepared to sing 16 to 32 bars from the show or from a show in a similar style, and be comfortably dressed for movement. Acapella singing is not accepted and an accompanist will be provided. A score will be available, sides for readings will be provided. A headshot and resume is helpful but not required. A $10 non-refundable audition fee is due upon arrival. A completed audition form must accompany audition candidates, available online.
Tuition for Urinetown: The Musical classes and production is $600 per student, some financial assistance is available. Attendance at auditions does not ensure casting, tuition is due after casting is announced. Students may combine tuition to this program with Summer Workshop Classes, held on the same daily schedule from 9:30 am to 12 noon, for a discounted rate.
Rehearsals are held during A.C.T Summer Workshop (June 27th-July 16th) from 12:45 to 4:15 pm. Additional rehearsal commitment includes mandatory attendance during tech week. Additional rehearsals may be held on Monday and Wednesday afternoons after casting before the workshop begins, if needed.
Urinetown is presented on July 14-16, 7:30 pm. Tickets are available at www.companytheatre.com.
